Nevermind, it is called Max instead of HBO Max, perhaps include multiple names like Max, HBO Max and HBO Now?

Greetings @Kipjr!

Here is a brief timeline of what I have seen with this app, and how I have adjusted the Firemote project:

  • May 2023 HBO Max re-branded to Max
  • May 2023 Firemote version v2.3.2 was released, changing only the button's logo from HBO Max to MAX.
  • November 3 2023 Firemote version v3.0.4 was released, adding MAX to the app list in response to #232. The publisher of this app changed the underlying name.
    • Old HBO Max name in the dropdown is now HBO Max - will be removed soon
    • New MAX app name in the dropdown is MAX
  • Dec 8 2023 Firemote version v3.1.4 was released, removing the old HBO Max option (previously labeled as HBO Max - will be removed soon) as forewarned one month prior. This decision was based on the U.S. version of the old HBO Max app no longer being required.
  • Dec 12 2023 @dennisholtkamp posted in #232 that the HBO Max - will be removed soon launcher removed in the v3.1.4 release is still needed in the Netherlands.

With that history, this is what I will do:

  • I will put the HBO Max - will be removed soon option back in the next release, and keep it there for a while longer. (hopefully @dennisholtkamp will let me know when it is safe to remove?)
  • I will not add HBO Now since that is not an official app name
  • The end goal is to have everything listed as MAX to reflect the name change that HBO decided on in May of 2023.

I will keep this issue open until the HBO Max - will be removed soon is pushed back into the official release.

Firemote version v3.1.5 has just been published, which replaces the previously removed HBO Max app launcher. PLEASE let me know if/when this can be removed again. Thanks!

will let you know when the app intent will change in the Netherlands. This is of course no guarentee this will also be the case in other regions

Hi Doug,

It is still valid and probably will stay that way. There is a public broadcasting company called Max in the Netherlands that prevents HBO Max to br renamed for legal reason

I think I will change the name in the dropdown menu from "HBO Max - will be removed soon" to "HBO Max - Netherlands" for the next Firemote release.

When the change is made, nothing will be required on your end. It will just seamlessly adjust in the background.
