Plotter staying idle on Ubuntu 16.04

I am plotting a 500GB Plot file on my 2TB Drive. the plotter took a for pre-allocating space and now its writing at 180 nonces/minute. Then I tried turning off async mode but still the process remaining almost idle.

What could be the issue?

First thing I would check is if your system starts swapping to disk while plotting. That would absolutely destroy the performance of the plotting.

Hi @brynjare thanks for responding. I turned off swaping
nonces
plot

but still couldn't see any difference. nonces/min is decreasing gradually.

dmesg - any errors on the I/O subsystem?
How fast can your HDD be written to? (is it on SATA, SAS, USB,...)
If you have a 2TB disk, I assume it's no SMR...

Maybe you could post the command line you start the tool with.

  • maybe try the new cg_obup with directio
  • I see "running on battery" - if there are any power saving modes in effect that can have impact
