Configuration None
Definition None
Steps [1] Boot the console.
[2] Navigate to Dashboard language settings.
[3] Set language to each of the following, ensuring the title boots correctly and exhibits the correct localization for each in game:
[a] English.
[b] English (QWERTY).
[c] Japanese.
[d] German.
[e] French.
[f] Spanish.
[g] Italian.
[h] Korean.
[i] Chinese.
[j] Portuguese.
[k] Russian.
[l] Polish.
[4] For all additional languages (e.g. Swedish) supported by the title, ensure the correct localisation for each in game.
[5] Ensure all game critical text that is essential for gameplay progression within the title is legible when viewed in High Definition, Standard Definition and when using CRT TV’s.
Documentation Formerly FTC 025. A training video is available for this test case at developer.xboxlive.com under Certification > Training Materials > Certification Video Series.

Result Titles must boot correctly in all Dashboard language settings, and exhibit the correct localisation for all supported languages in game. Where text for all supported languages is displayed, this must remain legible regardless of the display setup.
Pass Examples None
Fail Examples [1] The title hangs on a black screen during the boot sequence when the Dashboard language has been set to specific languages outlined in step [3].
[2] Despite the title supporting only English, with the Dashboard language set to Russian, all hints, tips and directions displayed throughout the course of gameplay fail to display.
[3] With the Dashboard language set to Spanish but the in-game language set to English (the latter is set via any in-game option), all save game names within the Memory section of the Dashboard enumerate in a mixture of Cyrillic and null characters.
[4] Despite the title supporting French and German and the Dashboard being set to one of these languages when first booting the title, Achievements are not localised but instead remain in English.
[5] When the title is displayed through a CRT TV (19" or greater), game critical text is illegible in supported languages.
NA Examples [1] The text legibility portion of this test case is to only be run against non-Kinect titles. For Kinect titles, please follow the relevant Kinect-specific text legibility test case instead.
Analysis With research showing that CRT TVs are becoming increasingly uncommon within Japanese households, titles displaying Japanese localisation are exempt from the text size aspect of this test case.
Faq Correct localisation should include all text and audio being translated into the relevant language. If the Dashboard Language setting is not supported by the title, it should default to a supported language. However, it is not acceptable for a title being distributed in Rest of Asia (i.e. Korea, Hong Kong) to default to Japanese. It should instead default to English.
Kinect titles supporting Natural User Input are exempt from the text legibility aspect of this test case and should instead follow the guidelines set by FTC#000-44: Text Size.
