From @S2ymi on Discord. No clue where to put it so I'm just making this issue instead.

Particle (.pcf) modding quick guide:

  • download alien swarm and it's sdk (from steam)
  • move the materials folder from the mp_common vpk into alien swarm's swarm folder
  • in steam launch options for alien swarm (not sdk) add -tools -nop4
  • start up alien swarm
  • enter sv_lan 1 into the console
  • switch to the particle editor (right most button on the top left)
