For example, neolithic relies heavily on use of wood, while medieal will be mostly based upon stone and metal. So, excessive wood from outdated neolithic wood walls in medieval period could be used as fuel for medieval furnaes. Or rough stone cobbles could be used for making cobble roads outdoor, which give boost to pawn travelling speed to the distant places of your map. And so on...
