[Request] Save location

Cyberdr3am opened this issue · 7 comments

Hello and thank you for this application.
I would like to know if it would be possible to memorize the location of the elements and restore them to the same place the next time they are opened.
I use it to move the windows notifications block to another place on the screen except that I have to do it every time I reboot.
I would like to know if it would be possible to memorize the location where I put it and thus avoid having to put it back on each restart.
THANKS

@Cyberdr3am, have you tried this utilities: https://github.com/kangyu-california/PersistentWindows? It works quite well for me and has lots of options. It can work with multiple virtual desktops and handles resolutions changes as well (e.g. work <-> home <-> laptop only etc.

This is in the plans in the long-term to add the auto-restore position size option for all snapped windows or for any window. However I have not yet been working on it.

As pointed out there are some goods tools that can do this already so it is not high in the priority list.

Thx for your help.
I try Persisentwindows but the notification center is not save and the position is now always restore i must do it manually.
This soft if flag as problem with malwarebyte.
If you have other soft i am happy to test it.

I am not associated with PersistentWindows. It may have issues with windows built in apps. But you can create an issue on their github issues page. Regarding the malware, I think it lacks code signing so windows flags it. I don't think it is a malware and the source code is available on their github. Lots of open source software on github are not code signed. They are flagged by Windows similarly.

If you are concerned with code signing and don't mind to pay for the software, I think https://www.desksoft.com/WindowManager.htm is an alternative to try. I have tried it personally so cannot say how good it is. But it looks like the product was actively supported for a long time. Maybe that is a good sign.

From what I tested the PersistentWindows.exe file has only one positive report on VirusTotal, https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/08730418467e339968cb74c05e9374731f6de370a423cc876e1b68ad564783dc

It is probably a false positive, usually when you have less than 10 positive on VirusTotal it means the file is not a known virus.

@RamonUnch, is there a way to change the snap layout name during save?

Snap layouts cannot be named for now, they are just numbered.
If you want to save a test window disposition as a specific snap layout you must select the snap layout before clicking the save test windows menu entry. You will see a confirmation dialog, with the snap layout number specified. If it is not the snap layout you wanted, just hit cancel, select the one you want in the tray menu and hit the save menu entry again.
