Request for Assistance with Localization in SSSD
Closed this issue · 7 comments
We are currently using SSSD (System Security Services Daemon) and would like to localize a specific message. The message we want to update is:
"Password expired, %d grace logins left."
We would like to change the localization to:
"Password expired, %d grace logins left. So Your access will be revoked."
Could you please help us by providing detailed steps on how we can properly localize this message in SSSD?
Basically text messages are hard coded in the source code, so you either need to open a PR upstream to change specific message or to have a custom build.
Btw, "Localization" usually means a different thing - "translation to local language". Translations are maintained in another repository - https://translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/sssd/
Could you please provide more deatils on "Btw, "Localization" usually means a different thing - "translation to local language". Translations are maintained in another repository - https://translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/sssd/ "
Which means we can use this repository https://translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/sssd/ and change "Password expired, %d grace logins left." to "Password expired, %d grace logins left. So Your access will be revoked.". And we could see many sssd repository's, so could you you please tell us exactly which repository we can use and how.

No.
translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/sssd maintains translation to different languages, keeping meaning intact.
So you mean to say that changing "Password expired, %d grace logins left." to "Password expired, %d grace logins left. So Your access will be revoked." is not possible ? Only when if we request for PR upstream to change specific message or to have a custom build.

Correct
For PR upstream to change specific message or to have a custom build. Id this Paid or Public(free). If we request for PR upstream or custom build will you provide it for free or Paid ?
Hi,
SSSD is an open-source project. It means the code is open to community, thus contributions are more than welcome. Answering your question, there is nothing paid here since it is open to the public!
You are asking for changing a string, which means your PR (pull request) should be addressed here. As previously mentioned, as any open-source project we count with community and contributions from everyone, so feel free to file a PR with the proposed change and explain the reason why you wanted to change it. This will be discussed with maintainers and, if it does make sense, the PR is approved and merged upstream, so it will be available in the next release.
Does it make sense? Do you have other questions?
PS: Here is the guidance on how to create a Pull Request in SSSD, please follow this template if you are willing to contribute.
