[question] some info about status and build

Hello @SVoxel , Merry Christmas! (and apologies for my english)
I recently got my hands on a netgear r7500v1, the current firmware is from netgear V1.0.0.130
, I was hoping to flash it with openwrt or dd-wrt but the former still doesn't support 5g (and from some forum discussion seems like they will never do, I guess the only hope would be if the vanilla kernel get built-in drivers, but I don't even know if they use the latest... even if... may take eons) and the latter doesn't even provide a flashable .img
(they do but is too big).
Then I found your discussion there, do I understand correctly... the fw in this repository is based on openwrt and add patches to support the 5g? (beside other stuff)
In your opinion there's some good reason to keep the .130
over flashing it with the firmware in your repository? I like the option to customize it, I had my experiences with buildroot and embedded devices.
I saw in some old thread someone was trying to get the drivers from an SDK but there was some trouble on long run at the time, the driver in this firmware is stable? Did you used it a lot and was working fine?
About the build, I found the toolchain you mention in the readme there, I guess the dl packages (GPL sources of stock NETGEAR firmware) are these, but I'm not sure what version to download, V1.0.0.82
as mentioned in R7500_gpl_source_list.txt
?
Thanks in advance for any help you may give and for sharing this firmware
