The project will continue, but we don't know exactly how yet.

A few weeks ago I installed this app on a Spanish Android, via F-Droid, and there was no translation (everything was in English). I have checked, and there is Spanish translation here:

app/src/main/res/values-es/strings.xml

I wanted to try again, because the translation file has been updated some months ago, but then I realised that there have been no labelled releases since Jan 23. That is the version which F-Droid delivers.

This project is effectively dead, isn't it?

Or is a new released actually planned?

Jan 23 of this year? Hardly makes an unmaintained project. There can been more than a year without releases, but if there are no showstoppers, this is not an issue.
