Thermal images of AMDC motor drive during operation

Opened this issue · 1 comments

@elsevers was wondering about the steady-state thermal performance of our circuit boards, thinking about more heatsinks etc.

I tested a bearingless motor when it was levitating and rotating at 60 RPM under no-load (i.e., basically 0W from the power electronics).

The test setup looks like this:

AMDC

  • The PicoZed with heatsink running dual-core v1 firmware (+ FPGA) has a steady-state temp of about 48 C.
  • The hottest part of the AMDC is the DC/DC input power converters, which reach about 60 C.

AMDS

  • Similar story for the AMDS: DC/DC input power converters are hottest at around 60 C steady-state.

Kaman sensor interface

  • Looks like U5 is the hottest at around 45 C. Per the design files, U5 is the high-speed differential driver line driver which drives the ADC inside the Kaman box.

Very nice. Thanks @npetersen2
