_onSelectChange removed?

I found this thread after trying to follow this tutorial to add swatches to the product page; however, the fix that was given no longer seems relevant as it appears that the _onSelectChange function was removed?

Can anyone provide guidance as to where the swatches JS code is supposed to go now?

I've been using https://github.com/Elkfox/Concrete, which still has it and a couple other nice little features.
