This was discussed in the braille meeting on 2022-10-13, when @zorkow was not able to attend. Short version: binomial coefficients do not need 2-D layout. One less case to be concerned with. See precise details at

Binomial coefficients, Proof of Theorem 8.7, Braille page 343. Use “under character” to represent binomial coefficients on one line rather than representing it as a 2 by 1 matrix.

Binomial coefficents are now linear, using SRE 4.1.0-beta.3.
