Is it ok if I refactor this mod?

Hi,
I would like to make this mod more extensible/pluggable, so that other mods can integrate with it to register their own alert types, sound libraries, etc. But to do that I'm going to have to make significant changes to the code (particularly config.lua and control.lua) so thought I'd ask if it's OK to do that (and send a pull request) or whether you'd prefer me to create a completely separate mod?

Sure, go ahead!
Pull requests are welcome.
