Announcement: dbt-athena-community

Hello everyone,

I want to take a few seconds of your time to announce that the dbt-athena community has taken the difficult decision to fork the current project and start a parallel and fully community-driven initiative to support the dbt-athena adapter.

Various changes were added in the last weeks at a faster pace thanks to the community. We now support dbt 1.3.0, Apache Iceberg, and many more features that will be released soon.

The new community aims to be fully community driven while maintaining direct connections with both dbt and AWS. Conversations with both parties are already underway.

You can find us at dbt-athena/dbt-athena. If you have open issues or feature requests here, please move them to dbt-athena/issues. Contributions are highly welcomed. See dbt-labs/dbt-athena#66 for more details.

The main communication channel is #db-athena in the getdbt slack

This is so exciting! Is there a plan to put something in the readme to redirect people to the community fork?

Probably no, we tried to contact @Tomme (which is the only maintainer here) multiple times but without much luck.

Hi Team - Can we connect athena using AWS role. Is it possible?
