Improve unicode character support in Markdown

Showdown does not generate IDs for non-English characters. This can result in empty IDs, or IDs which contain just the English characters if there is a mix.
As part of our work to improve support for foreign languages, we should ensure that sensible IDs are generated for non-English characters, probably using unidecode.
