You can actually already make infinite clones by using pen objects and lists in Scratch.

You can use lists and pen to make theoretically "infinite clones", but that isn't the same.

The option is already there. People already use it. We can't remove it for compatibility reasons.

Clones have several advantages over stamps for reasons such as easier development (clones can use local variables without hacks), better performance (stamping is slow[er] than not stamping), higher quality (stamping is very pixelated in Scratch), being able to use blocks like "touching mouse pointer" automatically.
