smoothing for curtain display seems to loose a bin of vertical resolution

Opened this issue · 5 comments

The top parts of many of the curtain plots seemed to be missing some data so I compared the detail from a matlab plot to what the portal shows for 103101Caqd east data. I couldn't get the colormaps or heights to match exactly, but they're close enough for this comparison.

Note the presence of data near the line at .2m in the lower plot ("real" data), and the missing data around the same line in the plot above (the portal). The gray box encloses approximately the same area in both figures. Can the portal smoothing be tweaked to retain more data near the surface?

  • are the units really changed from m/s in the CF file to kts in the portal?
  • is there a way to display a color scale to indicate what the colors mean? is red 10 or 100? It may be there but I don't know how to enable it.

thanks!

You can change the units from english to metric on the settings menu:

You can click the legend button or expand:

@emontgomery-usgs the legend should probably have been raised as a separate issue, right?

@rsignell-usgs , thanks for clarifying the usage. I think the loss of the top bin of data is still an issue, regardless of which units are displayed.
