Expand ellipsis in show/hide directive has inconsistent styling behavior

When you first load the page, the ellipses show up when hovering over the elements and disappear when you move the mouse away. I think this is the right behavior. But when you actually expand the element, the ellipsis is forced to hidden, and when you contract it the ellipsis is permanently displayed.

This means that, after expanding and contracting an element, the hover behavior is no longer followed. I think that the permanent hiding of the ellipsis on expansion is also not a great idea, but it's not a bug like the former is.
