Basic filter too dark on the masking window

When using the mask edition window, the basic filter is too dark, making it hard to see details when trying to select. Is this "filter" needed? Could we not just have darker for selected and lighter for existing mask, but no change the rest. As is now, there seem to be a 50% grey filter on the untouched image.
