Faculty supporters so far:

Sean Hill comments:

  • Could use conference room on12th floor at Krembil neuroinformatic institute for the location of the course (and even UofTCoders sessions, but it is not ready yet)
  • suggested to have a lesson on data modeling, standardized data schema : https://github.com/BlueBrain/nexus/tree/master/src/main/paradox/docs/tutorial
    (@SaraMati to create)
  • IMS for admin "holding" of course? Needs department host..? Or find out if NeuroModulation institute can host (through IBBME)?

Other items:

  • be conscious that the deadline for next year course approvals may be the end of this term
  • Focus on Python
  • January 2020 start date
  • Really focus on the participatory live-coding aspect of the course in the proposal: The students go out of each lesson having learnt the implementation of the ideas and topics, not just hearing about them in a lecture.
  • get ideas from the list of similar courses in #4

Action items:

  • @SaraMati Get draft email from rcourse repository to send to departments
  • (All) Start drafting up and finalize syllabus, generic schedule. Due: End of Feb.
  • @linamnt Departmental deadline for getting course into department

Potential (guest) instructors to finalize which lesson they want to contribute to:

  • Derek
  • Shreejoy (willing to help make content too)

I'm currently in contact with some admin to find out the deadlines, but they are taking a while to get back to me about specifics.
Here are the requirements (based on https://www.vpacademic.utoronto.ca/academic-change/minor-modifications/) and through email communication with the VPAP:

  1. Obtain the approval from the graduate unit. The proposal should include the appropriate and completed template, as well as any supporting documentation (e.g. course syllabus).
  2. Obtain the approval from the GLSE Graduate Curriculum Committee (GCC) which is chaired by the Vice-Dean, Graduate and Academic Affairs. The proposal package should be sent to the Graduate Affairs Officer at GLSE at least 2 weeks before the next meeting. Meeting dates for GLSE GCC are listed here.
  3. Obtain the approval from the Faculty of Medicine's Education Committee, a standing committee of Medicine's Faculty Council. The proposal is presented by a faculty member in the corresponding graduate unit, ideally the same person who presented the proposal at the GLSE GCC. Meeting dates for all committees involved in this process are listed here (May 30th, 2019).
