Increasing the detail of the wiring docs for Primo w/ V1 wiring kit

There are several good sources of information on wiring the Primo up, but they are not in the docs where I would expect them to be. I would like to put a page in the doc menu right around here:

Some of the info that is available:

Things to cover:

  • choosing a wiring scheme (series, dual endstops). Is it really difficult to use dual endstops?
  • placing the endstops. I have not seen anything yet on this, but I would think that I should be carefully aligning the endstop collars to trigger both stops at the same distance from the end of the world.
  • extending the wiring
  • normally open vs closed and which to choose for which board and (if applicable) which wiring scheme? Not sure, I think I read tonight that or the SKR Pro I have to use normally closed for dual endstops

To be clear, I am glad to drive this, I opened the issue to write my notes as I go through wiring up my Primo with the SKR Pro bundle and dual endstops. Once I have that detailed I will encourage other people to detail the specifics for their wiring using the supplies from the shop. I would think twice about including every DIY wiring solution as too many options get too confusing (my opinion).

We thought a lot about the organization of these docs. I don't believe they are perfect, but the wiring instructions do belong elsewhere. There are several control boards (4?). Some of them need to be flashed. So these things need to be sorted into their own sections. There is also a lot of repeated information between the MPCNC and the Low Rider.

The thought there is to provide a complete path from purchase to milling. There are dozens of ways to deviate from the path, but we can't cover them all. That said, we do have a few "forks" that are really necessary (series vs. dual endstop, skr vs. rambo, etc). Stuff that doesn't fit in that path ends up in the learning section.

I'm not shutting this down, but don't go reorganizing a bunch of stuff before convincing us (or at least Ryan) that it is better.

It may be true that the wiring instructions belong elsewhere, at a minimum there should be an entry in the lefthand nav between Belts and Troubleshooting so that the reader knows where to go next. It might be as simple as adding a link that points the reader to the wiring instructions. @jeffeb3 , when you say wiring instructions I am assuming that you mean the Control section in the lefthand nav, is that right?

If you look at the docs for the Burly build you can see more of a step by step set of instructions, the reader puts the system together and is then told how to run the wires, see the subsection running the wires inside final.

I am pretty sure that all of the information exists, maybe all that is needed is a couple of links. At the moment this issue is simply a place where I can write down where I get lost and how I get un-lost. I expect it to become a PR, but we will have to see.

I like it, we need it. I am not sure how it is best to organize it.

The thought process now was, after you build you move on to the board section, moving down the left menu.

After the boards section (which really need a single summary page first, with maybe just a chart or links), the next spot is steppers, but really that is wiring.

So it looks like maybe reorganizing the control section is in order, maybe a new page or two, or maybe just refresh them. We already have a pending firmware section revamp in the works, but yes the control section needs some love.

To throw a monkey wrench in the works though. I don't think I will be selling the mini's any longer and therefore we can ditch the series stuff (bury it or get it out of the "main" instructions). The wiring then goes down to one page, with a link to the dual page (that tells you about endstops and gcodes etc).

I am not sure how it is best to organize it.

As I wire, route, and flash I will take notes and pictures (and ask questions) and then we can mock it up.

I am glad about the monkey wrench, one less thing to consider. That SKR Pro board I bought from you is so much nicer than the non-pro board I have on my printer. If I did not have a Duet board and two SKR turbo boards sitting on the bench I would be buying another Pro for my MP3DP.
