Linux audio distorted in Index headset, correct on laptop speakers

GabrielHare opened this issue · 2 comments

PROBLEM:
When audio plays from the laptop speakers it sounds correct. When audio plays from the VR headset it sounds very distorted.

SETUP:
Alienware M17, Intel i7-9750H, GeForce 2060
Index headset
Ubuntu 202.04
SteamVR BETA linux_v1.14
Unity 2019.4.36f1
FMOD Unity plugin
SteamAudio Unity plugin
SteamVR Unity plugin

NOTE: I have also tested with the standard and latest beta versions of SteamVR. In this case the rendering has frequent visual corruption, deformation, and the camera position will jitter... and ALSO the audio is distorted.

NOTE: Using exactly the same hardware & Unity project, but running Windows10 (system is dual-boot) there are no audio issues. So the issue cannot be hardware (a loose connection, bad cables, etc.)

REQUEST: If you landed here in the course of a Linux + SteamVR search and have a working system or have experienced the same issue, could you please take a couple of minutes to post your system setup?

Maybe I'm the only user experiencing this issue, but it effectively makes Linux VR unusable for my application.

Do you get bad audio in SteamVR Home / other applications as well? If so this sounds more like a Linux problem. Posting on the developers forum is a better place for that: https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/7/

Also have you tried without SteamAudio / FMOD?
