Situation: DaLLaN's Retreat

This concerns our integration with Mechalit Core and Cyber Fauna.

DaLLaN, creator of these two mods, recently posted this across all their RimWorld mods (example https://web.archive.org/web/20240424144228/https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1548649032 / https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1548649032 ); I quote:

I'll be back as soon as Tynan stops deceiving fans of the game and starts updating the game. Previously, each update to the game introduced new mechanics, such as mood, drugs, and a global map. Now Ludeon is releasing paid mods costing $30 for the unoptimized core of the game. This is a terrible disrespect for the players. Therefore, I will not update my mods and advise other modders to do the same. I decided not to delete the page for this mod out of respect for subscribers and those honest developers who developed the game before the stage of introducing paid mods. Now the developer is deceiving players. The game is not updating. In the two years since the release of version 1.4, the game could have been greatly improved. But the developer added one tool from AllovTool and a terrible paid mod for the price of the game. This is a real shame.

While technically this should be temporary, I shall take the above message as the following:

• no more mod updates for RW v1.5+
• 3rd party takeover is not possible because:
  • it is not exactly "abandoned by negligence"
  • no author's invitation to takeover
  • this therefore looks like "ship is scuttled"

Therefore, we can safely drop compatibility with Mechalit Core and Cyber Fauna. This does not affect previous versions of this mod because we have a separate build target for each major RimWorld version.

A few less things to care about.
