WhatPumpkin/Sburb-Legacy

The Motherfucking Editor Motherfuckers.

Closed this issue · 29 comments

Graphical interface for assembling assets, and building sprites and rooms. Reads SburbML in to show you what you've got so far, spits SburbML out when you're done.

Previously abandoned to focus work on core engine.

You want things to work on? You fucking GOT IT.

Challenge fucking accepted.

@illuminatedwax Just making sure you didn't have any significant progress on this that I should know about?

This repository still has a ghostly "editor" branch hanging around, for reference. I'm not clear that the current head even runs. A couple versions back certainly did. It most certainly does not handle modern SburbML

Perhaps this should be a branch and or new repository?

That way if you need help developing it you can create issues and everyone can try and help if they have the time.

I did a bunch of work on a test version, but I never really liked the ui
design, especially for the web. There's probably some code you can look at;
the editor was the reason a lot of serialization.js is set up the way it
is. I started using jQuery as the main library; I bet there's a bunch of
neat libs that might be able to help, too. I'm also wondering if html5 is
even the best tool for the job, but then again I've dealt with cross os
issues and they can be just as bad as browser issues and probably worse.
Wed probably be best off with aiming towards a singular version of
firefox/chrome, too.

Ill gladly be part of any discussion/effort to make this thing, having
attempted it once.

I think for an editor, it's a lot more acceptable to just target one specific browser.

On LtSquig's note above, I was thinking of setting up an MSPA/Homestuck/WhatPumpkin Organization. That way I can submit pull requests, and there's a more official-like hub for development. Would be a good place to put the Editor and Jterniabound.

Might also just rename Jterniabound to Sburb, while I'm at it. That was the official unofficial engine name over the years.

Hopefully doing so doesn't destroy the world. I'll start work on building the HTML5 editor from scratch tomorrow then, after I get all these other issues closed.

That's not what you guys are working towards with this?

We should probably ensure creating the new universe works before we try to destroy the current one, but I have no problems being a deity.

Some asshole made an mspa account and literally did nothing with it.

I have control over SburbTeam, but that's all I can offer :(

I was hoping to make it more generalized in case there are more projects to be had. Homestuck seems very specific. WhatPumpkin very vague.

"MSPACode", "WhatCode", "GiveMeTheMSPAAccountYouJerk"... I'm bad at names

MightyFightyShushBugs?

"WhatSemicolon". Perfect.

"Robots are people too"

Alright WhatPumpkin and Sburb/SburbUI are set up.

So delete my fork and refork from them, then start using those repos to track issues? Not sure how to properly transfer this sort of thing.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I'm not aware of any good mechanism to push issues to a new repo.

Wait
Might've found something.

Boom.

Excellent.

(now i can continue stalking the progress. haha)

Did you... did you just turn yourself INTO WhatPumpkin?

No, I just wizard magicked it over to WhatPumpkin.

Also this is now an issue for SburbUI.

Magic isn't real

That's why I used magick.
