Garmin smartwatch showing metric when Android app is set to imperial

Hi

I have a garmin fenix 5 smart watch and a begode RS HT
and have set the measurements to imperial (miles and °F) in the android phone app but the data on my watch will only show the equivalent in kph and °C.. I don't know if there is a solution to this as I'm simply not used to kph/°C and need it to show the imperial data on my watch as it does my phone please. I tried to toggle the 'switch controller in miles' to on (as in the screenshot here

with the red arrow) but further to toggling it on it immediately turns off again and won't stay on (though tbh I don't really understand what this does let alone why it won't stay on)

Would appreciate any help getting this working and showing mph and °F on my watch
