Can I use your project as the basis for mine? I've made some adaptations I need and updated the minecraft version to 1.12.2.

Sure, I can't stop you from doing that because of the license but I would ask you to please make it a proper fork instead of just copying the repository.
I also had a look at your modifications and I would ask you to keep your code in english and employ proper formatting.
Apart from that I look forward to your version.
