This is to avoid shifting text. Or is this simply not possible given how overlay works?

You're quick. I was meant to reopen the issue in the avy repo.

I didn't explain my request clearly. I was thinking to have the leading chars lined up straight in the rightmost column of the selected window. I have not pulled this commit yet, but if I am understanding your code correctly, with the post style, avy-goto-line will show the leading chars staggered at the end position of each line.

Now I have looked at how overlay works, I think what I was thinking is not possible.
