Move forward until does not work if you're at the char you want to go to

Given the following string (the cursor marked with square brackets):

object[.]some.method.chain

When I type M-' ., the cursor does not move. If I move the cursor one character forward and type M-' . again, it will now successfully move the cursor to the next dot.
