[DOC] Working sample for a syslog appender

Closed this issue · 4 comments

Is it possible to include a working example for syslog appender, with sample conf for syslog as well? it is not simple to set up such that it shows up in the system,. that will at least give developer who is not sysadmin some pointers.
thanks

Hi there,

There is already a syslog appender in log4erl. You can find a sample conf for it under priv/log4erl.conf. If this is not what you're looking for, can you please explain further?

Ahmed

Hi, I used that config however I am only seeing files created but no content. And that I have the syslog.conf setup with local0 and the location of logfile and the port opened. I know that this not really part of log4erl syslog appender, but it will be nice to have a dummy non maintained sample/config that shows it works on xxx platform xxx version, Newbie who is not strong linux sysadmin can always start from there and make that suits for their needs afterwards. .. Or this can be put under wiki?????????

Hi Ed,

I think for this to work, you need to supply -r argument when syslogd is run. If this didn't work, can you please let me know what OS and syslogd version you're using. Perhaps I can help.

Ahmed

Hi Ed,

Can you please confirm if syslogd is working well now? Let me know if not. I'll close this case within 3 days if I don't hear back from you. You can raise a new case.
