Message Bar not Appearing on latest build

I was looking at another user's issue with a config file and expecting to see an error message when a bad configuration was provided, but no red message popped up. The error was logged to STDOERR however (pasted below) FWIW. I reran the terminal one commit back (a77f77c4) and it seems to work as expected.
