A way to exclude folders automatically from a given tree

Hi, I just discovered this tool and it works magically. I draw a little in my spare time, but my collection has grown a lot and I want to make my work searchable. However, I do not need to see e.g. the concept / reference or sketch pictures that also clutter my artbook portfolio. For example a typical drawing has multiple phases;

  • 2022-04-09 Drawing - Ref.png -- if based on some ref image, for painting purposes
  • 2022-04-09 Drawing - Concept.png -- Concept drawing, rough sketch or painting
  • 2022-04-09 Drawing - Sketch.png -- More refined sketch, sometimes as concept cartoon to hand out to commisioners to see if the joke translates
  • 2022-04-09 Drawing -- Comments.png - When I receive feedback on reddit, or instagram, might contain some comments I like to keep
  • 2022-04-09 Drawing.clip -- the digital master file
  • 2022-04-09 Drawing.png -- The actual drawing

When I run Allusion, I see all these pictures. I don't mind doing a concession to keep the stuff clean like;

MASTERCOPY (folder)
- 2022-04-09 Drawing - Ref.png
- 2022-04-09 Drawing - Concept.png
- 2022-04-09 Drawing - Sketch.png
- ...
2022-04-09 Drawing.png

Where all intermediate files are inside a MASTERCOPY folder (together with other drawing's files), however I have a lot of those "MASTERCOPY" folders and for every subfolder I have to manually remove them, to exclude them from the indexed database.

I would like to propose introducing a set of wildcard (folders/files) matchers upon creating a location where these folders are simply not shown or indexed. This will keep the intermediate files with the drawings, but not shown in Allusion.

Thank you for making this great tool!

hi, happy to hear, and thank you for the feedback!
Adding features like this makes the application a little cluttered, we prefer to avoid them if there is a reasonable alternative already in place.
What could work for you is a Saved Search entry for browsing your library, for instance File path | Not Contains | 'MASTERCOPY' or perhaps a few "Not contains" "Ref"/"Concept"/"Sketch" criteria.
You could also add a "hidden" tag to the images you want to ignore to completely hide them in Allusion. You'll have to apply the tag manually to those images, but if you add a saved search to find them like the one I mentioned above, you can apply the tag to all of them at the same time, so it would't cost much effort
