Define a custom configuration per level, ie. first level popup has big icons, second level has none.

I like it. I see it being implemented like this:

nPopupChildPrefix SecondLevelPopup
SecondLevelPopupNoIcons
...

That way you can also chain them,
SecondLevelChildPrefix ThirdLevelPopup
