Chat history not syncing properly for some contacts

Opened this issue · 7 comments

Hello! Whenever I refresh my chats for a select few contacts, instead of it syncing, the chat log simply disappears... it's a bit inconvenient. Is there anything I can do to clear the cache or something, and can this be fixed? Thanks.

Hello,

it does not work with only few contacts, or all of them?

  • If it is all of them, did you enabled the gmail permission? This feature cannot work without it.
  • If it is only few contact, I would check the name of the contact for which it does not work. If you have a nickname instead of the real name of the person it may not work (it is a long story). You can check it by using mail.google.com, and do a query: "is:chat from:(...) OR to:(...) " and replace the "..." by what appears in the list of contact.
    • If something appears, then it should work...
    • If you have nothing, you may need to adjust the name by using the full name, or even better the email address of the contact. For that, you can use the "edit contact" contextual action on the contact list. And adjust the "full name" field.

I'm actually having this issue too with a couple contacts. I tried your suggestions and it fixed on all but one...

The one person that was a problem still had a nickname, so I got rid of that. However instead of the chat log disappearing as soon as I open it, it goes to some chat log from the middle of June! I can send and receive messages fine after that but if I go back to the contact list and open the conversation again, it'll do the same chat log disappearing and going back to july. I tried clearing Hangouts history and deleting all my Hg10 data/reinstalling but that one person is still broken :(

Hi,

There is like no cache in HG10, it only fetch what is stored on Google server so clearing cache & reinstalling the application won't help.

That is a strange behavior what you are explaining, I would expect that it works, or not at all. Not that you only get messages until mid of June.

I would suggest you to try the search engine in gmail (the website) and type things like I mentioned before in this issue: "is:chat from:(contact name) or to:(contact name)"

And replace 'contact name' by what is appearing in the list of contacts.

Just to see what kind of reply you get from the google servers. Maybe you will be able to see what the problem is...

@amonchakai I tried the "is:chat from:(contact name) or to:(contact name)" the first time but must have missed the offending data. i've removed the problematic contacts and re-added them and hopefully this works!

@amonchakai The person's username shows up differently, I assume because of Google+ and Outlook. For privacy, I'll emulate the problem with a mythical name

Name 1: John Doe
Name 2: N. Doe, John
Email: johndoe1987@outlook.com

@amonchakai are you planning to fix this to allow using different names/nicknames?
