Should use MongoDB driver

App Engine supports it... it should improve performance and simplify the code. Not sure what the overall intention here is. If the goal is to show the way to connect php+gae+gdatastore then the mongodb driver is the way.
If the goal is to show how to use Datastore with PHP without access to the mongodb driver... then we should update the readme to reflect that.
The MongoDB driver can't connect to Google's NoSQL Datastore. In other words, you're on your own and you'll need to use the xml or json api. There is a Flexible Environment Bookshelf example that can be easily adapted to work on the standard environment.
I think most people tend to use
