Are lyrics only shown in app or downloaded along with the track?

Unless I'm missing something is seems your app displays lyrics, but only in-app and not embedded in the metadata or via .lrc file.
I'm unable to get lyrics to show in poweramp

It would be great if lyrics could be added to either metadata or downloaded alongside .m4a as a .lrc file.

For a personal tinker project your app has grown quite well, tremendous job! I hope this request is a non-issue like I'm just missing something; if not to reduce overall work required I have no preference to metadata lyrics or via .lrc file, whichever would be the simplest to implement.
I would simply use your app as my local player, but I love the features of poweramp and it's system wide equalizer, so being able to export the songs with full metadata and lyrics would be fantastic 😍
