Structure post types

e.g. notes, links, articles, videos, photos, quotations

Remember going for an old school Tumblr-esque feel.

Either merge all types into a single feed (more common than not) and use frontmatter and template types to render out (which is pretty much the path this has started going down) or have post types as completely independent entities with own feeds etc.

Worth thinking about post generators either as part of or immediately after this.

There is a bit of shear between indieweb post types and tumblr post types. I'm more interested in classic tumblelog style posts so have taken that as the lead.

  • The basic underlying type is an indieweb h-entry style post. This will (or at least should) encompass every post on the site at this point in time. Intent is to use it as a general post type, with rich text. Not sure whether it's worth the bother changing the path of posts to /posts just yet (or ever) because the /notes path and name is now rather fundamental.
  • Plan to add bookmark now. This is an h-entry type and will also have a distinct template.
  • Plan to add quote now. While there is a mooted quotation type of h-entry, it doesn't look well-used and has a different purpose. In the past I've used it for displaying chozzing great blockquotes in a tumblr style and plan to keep on with that. Maybe at some point I'll import quotes from Goodreads
  • Plan to add note now if I have a use for it, or later if not. This is the h-entry type and pretty much maps to a plaintext (or near enough) status update on Twitter or Mastodon, which I don't really care that much about.
  • Later, plan to add an entirely separate /articles section with h-entry style article. Different path, different feed, only for chunky articles
  • Images and videos that I would have posted with the Tumblr style Image and Video types are for now just simple posts (they don't really map to Indieweb types)
  • If I get to it image and video for Flickr and Instagram imports, although not too fussed right now.
  • Tempting to add the jam type as I've pretty much been doing this in various forms, but maybe backfill this.
