Parses Loncapa server files

Primary LanguagePython

Overview

This project converts a Loncapa server data into anonymized csv data, that can then opened by Excel or used as starting point for further processing.

Requirements

Uses Python 3 and Pandas The optional .db extractor component requires a C99 gnu compiler and an early version of the gdm link library to read the .db files (v.1.8 gdb); more recent versions of gdm may not recognize the earlier file format.

Optional preprocessing step (required for older versions of Loncapa server data)

Loncapa supports several storage mechanisms. Our server used .db files

The utility "dbreader.c" (also by Angrave in the same repository) can be used to first extract key-value pairs from the obtuse .db binary format. To be precise they are the early v.1.8 gdb format and not the common 1.10 format; and modern versions of the gnu gdm library would not recognize them.
