Amazon Linux AMI 1 kernels are missing

No kernels for Amazon Linux 1 are present. Although end-of-life, it is in maintenance support through June 30, 2023 (https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/update-on-amazon-linux-ami-end-of-life/).
Slightly different from Amazon Linux 2, the repodata is a bz2 archive. But otherwise, everything is pretty much the same. The kernel debug symbol packages are found in the amzn-updates-debuginfo repo. The base url for which is: http://packages.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/2018.03/updates/85446a8a5f59/debuginfo/x86_64
