External temperature sensor never enabled

I connected the external temperature sensor as is indicated in the manual, I am sure the connections are correct.
However if I do this:
- System Settings
- Built-in humidity/temp sensor support (reboot needed):
- Additional sensor support: ON
- Save
- Go away, come back to the system settings it is still on
- I restart the device:
- Restart => Restart Device
After this reboot the Additional sensor support is OFF.
- Firmware version 2.5.6
- CVE add-on revisie 2.x
- Type/model number Itho: no idea, I would have to crawl up there again, don't think it is really important for my incident, a rather old unit without temperature/humidity sensor. Control works fine however
- CC1101 RF module enabled: yes

I tried a few more times, restarted, pulled power... and now it works.
