Spotifree broken after Spotify 1.0.48.103.g15edf1ec update

After I updated my Spotify to version 1.0.48.103.g15edf1ec, Spotifree no longer works and shows "Spotify is not playing" in the menubar.

Tried deleting all caches as instructed on the Spotifree website, ads still playing every 3-5 songs. No luck so far.
