Alright even though @FrankieIsLost & I agree that this would be a better approach, due to the relatively high complexity of this change in a high risk area of the codebase PLUS the fact that we plan to go live in the next couple of weeks without another comprehensive audit, we've decided not to implementing this at this time.

However: If you are forking this codebase for your own use, you might consider implementing this change to save your users a bit of sweet sweet gas & enable multi-claiming without involving multiple addresses.
