I'm trying install and getting this error:

The correct version is 8.0.7RC1, 8.07RC1 is wrong.

It's probably better to pass an additional flag to curl to produce a better error. Would you like to tackle it? I can give you some pointers :)

No worries at all! Cool! I think it's enough to just pass -f or --fail where we are calling curl. Some other plugins are actually doing this!

I'm not an expert of PHP, but the RC release is more unstable than no RC for most projects. Also, strange behavior may have been fixed when 8.0.2 and others, and the point release (8.0.0, 8.0.1, 8.0.2, etc) should be basically compatible.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. whereis pg_config doesn't find anything but which pg_config returns /Applications/Postgres.app/Contents/Versions/latest/bin/pg_config because that's in my path even though I have postgres installed through brew as well.
This is with 8.0.6.
Is there a flag to specify where to find pg_config?

Until now @lukeledet I couldn't figure out how to solve the asdf installation problem. I have to find a way out installing through home brew and forcing to use the brew php path, which can be found with the command: brew --prefix php

I was able to get past Postgres issue like this:
PHP_WITHOUT_PDO_PGSQL=yes PGSQL_INCLUDE="/opt/homebrew/opt/postgres" PHP_CONFIGURE_OPTIONS="--with-pdo-pgsql=/opt/homebrew/opt/postgres/ --with-pgsql=/opt/homebrew/opt/postgres/" asdf install php 7.4.23
But if you run it, you will encounter other issues. The main cause is that when you set PHP_CONFIGURE_OPTIONS some default configure parameters are not set, and it generates some errors. I had to tinker with install script to get past them. I've attached a patch file for install script (with txt extension, GH does not allow patch extension?).
@smorimoto What do you think about this patch? Is there any reason to ignore os-specific detection when PHP_CONFIGURE_OPTIONS is set?
But then again, it failed (see #94).

Thank you for your efforts @vfsoraki ! That really can help me but it’s really strange for me why PHP install those tools a part, I’m not PHP expert but I think this is overwhelming. Does anyone know why?

@polotto As to why PHP tries installing them, as with everything PHP-related, I think it maybe historical. PHP changed a
lot during its lifetime, so somethings are as we see and no one dares changing them.
If you don't need Postgres extension, just use PHP_WITHOUT_PDO_PGSQL=yes and ignore other env vars, it should go past the Postgres error.

I was able to get PHP 8.0.12 to install with a small patch. I've not tested it extensively yet, but it builds and passes the make test step, so I assume it's working correctly
--without-pcre-jit is required since PCRE's JIT isn't supported on ARM Macs, at least according to Homebrew
I also needed to install postgres with Homebrew and point PHP's --with-pdo-pgsql option at it
I switched openssl to openssl@1.1 since I already had that installed with Homebrew. It probably also works with just openssl if you install that package instead, but I've not tested that — you'll need to switch openssl@1.1 back to openssl if you do that

Thanks @imjoehaines, I was indeed able to install version 7.4.28 by using your fix.
I took a few mins to prepare a pull request based on your suggestions, stripping out the postgres stuff and adding PCRE JIT disabling feature as an option.
