Support for important tag in Gmail

It would be nice to separate the number of important emails and normal email in the dropdown menu and even in mac menu bar.
It looks like to get numbers for different labels(tags), we need to fetch multiple feeds for a single account.
For example, to get the number of important emails:
https://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom/important
A while back we had a branch fetching a label other than the default one. But I figured out there're some issues, which would cause normal users.
The above feed would give you full list of 'important' emails, those archived included.
iOS 5 (on iPhone) doesn't offer an option not to archive the emails (on iPad it does). When you delete an unread email from iPhone, it's archived. You still see that email in the important label.
