Open in browser setting does not work for Safari

The open in browser setting is no longer working after updating Mail Notifr. My default system browser is Chrome. I have Mail Notifr set to open mail in Safari but the emails open in Chrome. If I choose a different browser in the Mail Notifr settings (for example Edge) then the email opens correctly in Edge. It appears the issue is with opening Safari when it is not the default system browser.

OS: macOS 11.6
Mail Notifr: Version 2.1.0 (205)
