Inconvenience: Different behaviour of "+" when working on single message vs when working on multiple

When working on multiple messages (selecting them and ; prefixing the +), writing down +foo +bar -baz does the following:

• Add the tag foo
• Add the tag bar
• Remove the tag baz

When using + on a single message with the query from above, the following happens:

• Add the tag +foo
• Add the tag +bar
• Add the tag -baz

This is inconvenient and inconsistent. Could we change that behaviour? I'd do it myself if you'd point me to the right location in the codebase and I'll file a PR with the change then!

So it seems this is not (yet?) configurable. Please consider this a feature request.
