Github deskotpp wiped out all my files on my hard drive

I must say this is the biggest shock I have ever experienced.
First of all I was working on a new site for 1 week. I had all db backups there, everything.........my whole site.
THen i tried github desktop I added repository selected my local folder where my site was and it deleted everything....I had like 7 different database backups there. My site is not working anymore nothing.
I am really disgusted by this.
First of all I used gitbash and it always hanged....so I switched to this horrid tool github desktop that should be easy to use.....big mistake....
what can be done here....I cant even find the files in trashcan on my win 10...THEY ARE GONE......
THank you so much for ruining my 1 week work.....it was over 50 hours.....
I think you're confused, this is not github desktop, this is a package for the Atom text editor, providing a gui based git management
