Maybe it would be interesting to have a small video showing your workflow

Hi,

I'm a long time kde plasma user and I'm always looking for always to improve my workflow.

Combining plasma and i3 seems to be a very interesting idea and from what I have seen on the screenshots the result is very beautiful.

I would like to know if there are productivity gains by using this setup instead of just kde plasma.

In addition to that I think it would be really great if there was a small video showing your current workflow so that users can better decide if the setup is worth the effort.

I also have a feel questions:

The instructions seems to be specific to debian based distros. Would it be much harder to configure it on manjaro?
How often this configuration breaks on updates?
Does it works great for games?

Hii, thank you for your interest!

The instructions seems to be specific to debian based distros. Would it be much harder to configure it on manjaro?

The only thing "locked" to debian is apt. Everything else are just configuration of packages. I know a number of people using this setup on arch-based distros without a problem.

How often this configuration breaks on updates?

Hardly ever. I have my system on Sid/experimental since 2017 and I've never seen this setup break completely. IIRC, one time the plasma spacer started behaving differently, but nothing really breaking.

I believe the KDE team is committed to mantain Plasma as decoupled from KWin, so this situation should be the same in the near future.

Does it works great for games?

If you can play normally, using this setup shouldn't alter your situation. Worst case is compton/your compositor of choice playing badly with the game vsync and such. You can disable it or play around its settings.

You've raised a number of other interesting points, I'll get back at them as soon as I have some time.
