Improve the non-discrimination clause

Here's what we have now:

As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of ability, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, sexual preferences, socioeconomic status, geographic location, or religion (or lack thereof).

This is Pantheon's:

In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as community members, contributors, and maintainers pledge to making participation in Pantheon and our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, sexual identity and orientation, socioeconomic status, or technical ability.

This is Lullabot's:

Employment opportunities at Lullabot are based upon one's qualifications and capabilities to perform the essential functions of a particular job and free from discrimination because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, citizenship status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, military status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Can/should we take from these good examples and improve our own?

I especially like the mentioning of the following (which I often find to be overlooked in other communities):

  • socioeconomic status
  • level of experience & technical ability (I think that these 2 are similar and should go "hand in hand")

I don't think that this bit is helpful or of any value:

or any other characteristic protected by law.

...it shouldn't matter if a characteristic is protected by a specific/written law or not; if it is something that should be respected, it should be respected.

In the interest of fostering a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment, we as community members, contributors, and maintainers pledge to making participation in Backdrop and our community a harassment-free experience for all, regardless of personal appearance, race, color, national origin, ethnicity, citizenship status, geographic location, religion, disability, age, body size, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation/preferences, socioeconomic status, level of experience or technical ability (or lack thereof).

Did I miss anything important? ...can any of those safely be grouped together and/or that list becoming shorter?

I don't personally see any value in including things like genetic information and military status ...I have never heard of any discriminating cases against those (but could be wrong).

I think, but not sure, that race, colour, national origin, ethnicity and citizenship status could be grouped under ethnic origin
