Be sure to read the descriptions of the modules, to avoid having someone port the wrong one.

  • Download Count only works with PRIVATE files attached to nodes
  • File Download Count counts ONLY instances when users click "Download" for a file entity - it will not count, for example, when an image is shown as part of a node etc
  • Public Download Count unlike Download Count, works for public files...

Which one are you exactly looking for?

I have a section on my site that requires users to log in to view the lists of files and click the file link to download, which would make me think it would be download count, however the files themselves seem to be "public" as I can send the file link to anyone (not just site members) to download, so that could be either of the other two.

What would be your suggestion?

So, that list of files is produced by a View of File entities? How did you upload those files? If you go to admin/content/files and click on Manage for any of the files, what do you see under Destination? Public? Private?

Ah, yeah, it's says public. I did use views to make a very streamlined list, just the name, thumbnail, description and a link to download, but only members can see that view or the nodes
