Odd behaviour when '#' is typed

I don't know if this has to do with the shift + 3 combination or the # character, but pressing shift + any number will give me the special character without any issue except for shift + 3 (#) . What happens is that after that, sxhkd stops responding to your key bindings and bspc spawns many processes. I tried using the example config from this repo and it's the same.
